General information, not medical advice

Pages here explain conditions and tests in general. They cannot account for your child’s history, exam or results. Please make decisions about your child’s care with your child’s doctor.

If you think your child is having a medical emergency, call 911.

Who writes the pages

Yash Shah, MD, MPH, a board-certified pediatric neurologist, epileptologist and clinical neurophysiologist, writes or edits every page. Each page names its author.

How pages are reviewed

Each family page shows a "Last reviewed" date and is updated when the evidence or guidelines change.

Family pages are written for a grade 6 to 8 reading level. Each starts with the answer, then what to do next and when to call.

Sources

Facts and numbers come from peer-reviewed research and professional guidelines. Each source is listed at the end of the page with a PubMed link where one exists.

EEG figures

EEG figures in the Academy and on family pages are computer-drawn teaching illustrations, shown at realistic time base and sensitivity. They are not recordings from real patients.

Stories from Clinic

Every story is a composite. Names, ages and details are invented, and several visits are blended into one. No story describes a real child. Each story is labeled this way at the top.

Cost

Everything on this site is free: family pages and tools, the EEG Academy chapters, practice questions, atlas, flashcards, and the Pediatric EEG Essentials case module.
